Market America Teams up with Humane Society of the Piedmont to “Fill the Food Bowl”

Market America employees donate over 9000 items to campaign since June 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. (June 23, 2009) – Market America, the Humane Society of the Piedmont and other local businesses have teamed up to help families who are facing financial difficulties feed themselves and to feed their pets.

The Fill the Food Bowl program was initially launched by HSP to help those unable to feed their pets so they would not be forced to surrender their animals, leading to overcrowded animal shelters. As unemployment numbers continue to rise, the Humane Society expanded the scope of the program to include families of those affected by the poor economy.

Market America employees began donating items on June 1, and through Tuesday June 23, have donated over 9000 items to the Fill the Food Bowl campaign. “The response from our employees has been incredible,” said Brandi Quinn, vice president of operations and the head organizer for the campaign at Market America. “Whether it’s been natural disasters, supporting our troops or causes in our own backyard, Market America’s employees have always answered the call. But this is by far the greatest response we have seen, and we are so proud to have hundreds of employees who care so much about their local community.”

Among those joining Market America in teaming up with HSP are Meg’s of High Point, Talbot’s, Brassfield Animal Hospital, and Camp Bow Wow. Non perishable food items can be donated at any of these businesses locations, including at Market America located at 1302 Pleasant Ridge Road until the end of June.
